TBC
Youth Group disbanded indefinitely
Due to failure to fulfill its stated purpose, the TBC Youth Group was
disbanded . . . about five years ago. In its place, the Warehouse Youth
Ministry was formed. There is a distinct difference between a group
and a ministry. Webster’s defines a group as “a number of
individuals assembled together or having some unifying relationship.”
The world is full of groups, often they are called teams or clubs and
assemble to share common interests and fulfill desires of members. While
we do assemble because of our unifying relationship with Christ, to
come together only because of that would fall short of what God desires.
In contrast, Webster’s defines a ministry as “a person or
thing through which something is accomplished.” We believe this
is a more fitting description of our ministry. God has brought us together
because of our unifying relationship in Christ, but he has brought us
together to accomplish something—to minister to each other and
those outside our walls who do not know Christ as their Savior.
At Warehouse we make it a goal never to call our ministry
a “youth group.” Viewing the ministry as a group could encourage
students to think that we meet solely to meet their needs. Instead,
we want students to realize that we gather to serve God as we minister
to one another and to those who do not know Christ. Please don’t
call our ministry a youth group. There is no youth group at TBC; however,
there is an exciting and vibrant youth ministry! |
